Engineering

The qualification represents a set of foundation skills for use in mechanical engineering and related trades. It may be used as the first stage of an apprenticeship or as the basis for pre-trade courses.

It covers the following skills and knowledge:

• health and safety
• trade mathematics and mechanics
• metals and other materials used in engineering
• fasteners and assembly
• sketching
• measurement
• engineering tools
• machining operations
• welding safety and procedures

This qualification will form the first stage for apprenticeships towards the National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 4) and is expected to similarly form the foundation for the National Certificate in Engineering. It may also be the basis of future qualifications in Marine Engineering. .

	Mr Cumming teaches Engineering to students from Year 11 through to Year 13, he also teaches Metal Work to Year 9-10 students
