Prerequisite – 18 credits in Japanese at NCEA Level 2, or at the discretion of the HOD.
The course focuses on communication in Japanese using language in less familiar contexts, through the four skills, Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
The topics covered are: Land and People, Travel and Tourism, Communication and the Media, and Japan at Work. The cultural content of the course applies mainly to these areas, focusing on issues of mutual interest to Japan and New Zealand, for example, environmental and commercial issues. Students also further extend their knowledge and use of kanji.
The full course offered comprises 24 credits. Speaking and Writing with resources are internally assessed (9 credits), Listening, Reading and Writing are externally assessed (15 credits).
