Level 3
BAND ONE - 13ENG
This is a full NCEA examination course. In Band One we would hope to have those students who achieved most of the Level Two standards with excellences and merits. They will work at a fast pace and with sophisticated material. Any scholarship candidate would be in Band One. There are three internal achievement standards covering writing, research and seminar delivery. Of the exam standards, three are text based and one is close reading. Twelve credits are available in the examination and 12 internally.
BAND TWO - 13ENGQ
Band Two is also designed for those academic students who intend taking further study. This course is for candidates whose grades at Level 2 show that they do well in the internal standards but not so well in external examinations. Band Two students will take the same three internal achievement standards as the Band One students. These will cover writing, research and seminar delivery. In addition, there are two unit standards that cover transactional writing and close reading of poetic text. Twelve credits are available through achievement standards and 10 through unit standards.
This course requires that students are highly organised and hand in assignments regularly. All 22 credits are internal.
