The course is divided into three sections:
Resource Allocation via the Market
This section examines the key ideas involved in the operation of the market system, analyses how decisions are made and the outcome of those decisions in a modern market economy. This includes a study of specific examples, predominantly from New Zealand and uses a range of contemporary resources.
Resource Allocation via the Public Sector
This section examines the part governments play in allocating resources, particularly where the market does not give efficient or equitable outcomes. It includes a range of specific examples, predominantly from New Zealand.
Aggregate Economic Activity/Government Policy
This section examines the working of the economy as a whole and the effects of government policy. It includes an examination of employment, trade, growth, inflation and inequality in New Zealand.
