An understanding of the media is becoming increasingly essential in today’s society. Media Studies provides what students today really need: ways of understanding about how the world works, skills of analysis and interpretation, and opportunities for learning by doing. As Marshall McLuhan once famously said, 'Those who think there is a difference between entertainment and education, don't know the first thing about either!' The real strength of Media Studies is that it teaches us about both!
Students will find they are able to continue the subject at tertiary level (Universities and Polytechnics offer courses and degrees in Media Studies) and/or enter into a variety of career paths such as Journalism, Film/TV production, Broadcasting, Sales and Advertising, etc.
Media Studies is also great fun. Here is a selection of movie trailers that were made for Media Studies standard AS 2.6.
